Larry is the Partner in Charge of the Brown Smith Wallace Insurance Advisory Services practice, where he has direct responsibility for the Insurance Group of the firm. Larry has worked on numerous insurance company audit engagements with various insurance companies, MGAs, MGUs, reinsurers and third party administrators over the past thirty plus years throughout the United States.
As an insurance industry professional services specialist, Larry has expertise in performing financial and compliance audits for reinsurers, managing general underwriters, and insurance companies. These audits include:
- Stop loss carrier premium audits
- Premium accounting systems evaluations
- Internal financial procedure evaluations
- Administrator control evaluations
- Underwriting compliance audits
- Captive insurance audits
- Financial statement audits
The lines of insurance business under his audits have included worker’s compensation, individual and group disability, life and health, among others. Specifically, he has served as engagement partner on audits of both property and casualty and life and health insurance companies, including the detail analysis of the adequacy of loss and policy reserves.
Larry has also provided litigation support services to law firms and has taught staff auditor training level courses within the insurance industry.
Larry received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) degree in accounting from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, where he minored in economics. Prior to joining Brown Smith Wallace, he was an audit manager with a national accounting firm and Vice President of Finance at an insurance holding company.
A licensed CPA and certified in financial forensics, Larry is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is a past president of the St. Louis Chapter – Insurance Accounting and Systems Association.
